Billy Orr McDill, Sr., 88, of Panama CIty Beach, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017.
He was born in Gadsden AL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. O.O. McDill. He attended Gadsden High School and Jacksonville State Teachers College. He was a veteran serving in the Alabama Army National Guard and was mobilized into the Army during the Korean Conflict where he attained the rank of Sargent. He was married to Doris Inabanit, June 1951.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Doris McDill, eldest son Billy “Chip” McDill Jr. and wife Mary “Charlie” with their two daughters Chrystal McDill and Chelsea Gamble and husband Thomas, daughter Doris (Dottie) Berry and her husband Ken. He is survived by his brother John McDill and John’s wife Teresa. He was pre-deceased by son Dudley McDill.
After being discharged from the Army in April 1952, he went to work for Goodyear Tire Stores as a store manager, retiring from Goodyear in 1986 after 34 years of service in Tennessee and North Carolina. He then moved to Panama City, Florida where he went to work at Sothern Telephone Co. and then Hombre Golf Course where he worked for 20 years. Billy was a die-hard Alabama football fan and golfer and was sure his next 9 holes would be played with Jesus.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Dr. Steve Irwin and Reverend Tom Gamble officiating.
Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
