Charles Edward Myers

November 14, 1929 ~ September 13, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old
Charles Edward Myers, 87, died Tuesday, September 13, 2017 at his home in Panama City. He leaves his wife of 64 years, Faye (Reynolds) Myers; his son Darryl Myers and his wife, Tracy; his son Eric Myers; two grandchildren; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Gary Myers.

Born and raised in Winston-Salem North Carolina, the son of Marvin and Julia (Rose) Myers, he was a resident of Panama City since 1956.

In his early years, Charlie would often help his father at Western Electric. After graduating from Winston-Salem High School in 1947, he attended Auburn University on a Naval ROTC scholarship, graduating in 1952 with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Shortly after his time at Auburn, he would enter the army where he taught cryptography during the Korean War. During his service in the Army, he would meet his wife Faye and they would marry in Augusta Georgia in 1953.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Charlie had the opportunity to work for the Navy as a civilian contractor. As a Navy civilian he and his family would live in many places including Washington D.C. and Guam. He not only took pride in his work as an electrical engineer with the Navy, but truly relished the friends he made along the way. Over the years his expertise gained him the reputation as being able to fix anything.

Charlie had a passion for his church and often found himself in leadership positions in the many clubs where he was a member. An avid tennis player and square dancer, he was a longtime member of the Panama City Racquet Club and the Swingin' Squares square dance club. Although he would also settle for a quiet evening watching an Atlanta Braves baseball game or his beloved Auburn Tigers. War Eagle!
