JOHN WALLACE SWEET

John Wallace Sweet, 57, passed away on December 28, 2017 during a holiday visit with his loving family.
John was born in Panama City on November 28, 1960 to John and Virginia Sweet, where he grew up and performed in the Virginia Sweet School of Dance. He graduated from Bay High School (1979), University of West Florida (1984) & UCLA (1997). John started his career as a screenwriter for film & television then taught in the Screenwriting Program at UCLA for 10 years.
He was an exceptional man, a precious friend & a true gentleman in every sense of the word. If ever a person lived up to his name, it was John Sweet. His caring, humble & fun loving spirit carried a quiet wisdom & a kind word for everyone. He was a beloved instructor & friend to his students always offering words of encouragement to make sure each young student left his class feeling inspired. When not engaged in his passion for writing & teaching, John usually had a fishing pole in each hand. His love of travel took him to places such as New York, Africa, Tahiti, Europe, Australia & Vietnam.
John’s memory will always be held in the highest regard by those who knew & loved him.

John is survived by his mother Virginia Sweet, his sister Shawn Sweet Geradine, brothers-in-law Scott Geradine and Wes Burch, sister-in-law Dianna Sweet, nieces Shawn Dorsey, Sherrie Sweet, Stacey Tabor, Stephanie Sweet Doig and nephews Daniel & Chris Geradine and Joe & Matthew Mollman. He is predeceased by his father John Pershing Sweet, brothers John Michael & John Jackson Sweet and nephew Jeremy (Sweet) Gomez.

The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel at 1pm on Sunday, January 7th followed by a memorial service at 2pm. Pastor Scarlett Stevenson of Goodness of God Church will officiate. Flowers can be sent to the Chapel at 2403 Harrison Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405.
