Mary Denniston Pike, 92, died peacefully at home, surrounded by friends, after a long illness on August 6, 2017.
Mary was born to Helen Kohler Denniston and Joseph Faries Denniston, Jr. on November 9, 1924 in Hagerstown, MD. She graduated from Hagerstown High School and then studied at the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts, graduating in 1950. She enjoyed a long career as a technical illustrator at Fairchild Industries and then at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. She married Richard (Dick) Glenn Pike in 1972. They retired to Lynn Haven FL in 1988. Dick passed away in 1995.
Mary was an independent and free spirit who lived life on her own terms. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, FL. Like her mother, one of Mary's passions was needlework. She was an active member of the Embroiderers Guild of America/Seashell Chapter, the American Needlepoint Guild, and a weekly Sit 'N Stitch club.
Mary is survived by a stepson, Tod Pike, who lives in Pennsylvania, and step granddaughters Sharon and Megan Pike. Joseph Faries Denniston, III, Mary's brother, predeceased her in 2004. Mary was very close to her first cousins all her life -- Julia Anne Kohler Peterson and Katherine Wright Kohler Huguenin; they predeceased her in 2000 and 2006, respectively. She also leaves behind several first cousins once removed in VA, MD, and GA who have treasured Mary since they were children, and Barbara Bungay and JoAnn McNeil, her dear friends and caregivers.
There will be a "Celebration of Life" at the Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home in Panama City on August 28 at 10am. A gathering of friends will be from 9:00 AM until time of services.
