Billy J George

Billy Joe George, 86, passed away peacefully on January 15 at his home from cancer. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Rowell George, his mother-in-law, Flora Alice Rowell and his father and mother Millard and Mildred George. He is survived by his three daughters and their families - Renee Stanley (Lance) and their children Travis Stanley (Panama City, FL) and Lauren Mershon (Julius), two great-grandchildren Aubree and Adelyn (Marshfield, MO), Gina Mahmood (Mark) and their children Gabby and Nicholas Mahmood (San Diego, CA), and Denise George (Nashville, TN). Born in Noma, FL in 1934, Bill was raised in Panama City and graduated from Bay High School in 1953. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he began a 30+ year career with Southern Bell, retiring in 1990 from AT&T. In 1959, he met Frances Rowell and married. They enjoyed over 54 years of marriage and had three daughters, raising his family here in Panama City. An avid tennis player and golfer, Bill enjoyed life to the fullest. With his fun-loving, adventurous spirit he could also be found fishing, hiking and enjoying state parks around the country as a camping enthusiast and RVer. He and Frances traveled exploring the U.S. from coast to coast in their retirement. As a man of faith he was an active member at First Baptist Church, Lynn Haven. Bill lived by conviction that to much is given, much is required. Many benefited from his constant generosity as nothing made him happier than to help someone in need. His frequent encouragement to be a giver will be carried on through his friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome a memorial contribution to First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven (https://www.fbclynnhaven.org/giving) or Covenant Hospice Care of Panama City (https://www.choosecovenant.org/donate-now/) Due to COVID-19, there will be a private family graveside service. At a later date, when it’s safe to gather, there will be a Celebration of Life held to honor his life and legacy
