C. RUSSELL ELDER, JR.

C. Russell Elder, Jr., 88, of Panama City Beach, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019, at his home with his children at his side. Russell was born in Mill Hall, PA, and lived in Panama City Beach since 1970. He retired at the rank of SMSGT after 20 years in the US Air Force, serving during Korea, Vietnam and two tours at the Pentagon. After his military service, Russell worked for 24 years at the Panama City Beach Police Department, retiring at the rank of Captain. He was a member of Pythagoras Lodge # 358, F & AM, Shaddai Shrine Temple, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and was a life member of AmVets Post # 47. Russell was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Charlotte Elder.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Yarborough Elder of Thomasville, NC; his children, Don Elder of Panama City Beach and Debra Simmons (John) of Remlap, AL; his grandchildren, Jessica, Elena (Jason), Joseph, Scott Lee, Allyson and Brian; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and his best friend, Don Haith.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 21, 2019, at the Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Chaplain Conrad Meadows officiating, and honors offered by the US Air Force Honor Guard and the Panama City Beach Police Department. Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shaddai Shrine Temple, 1101 W. 19th St., Panama City, FL 32405.
