David Lowell Furst, 78, passed away May 8th at his home in Lynn Haven, Fl. following a long illness. He was born June 26, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana. He is survived by his wife of 44 years Angelyn, his son Roy and wife Susan, Granddaughter Whitney Furst Castello of Orlando, Fl., husband John and a Great Grandson Malachi Castello. Step-granddaughter Renee Rowe of Grove City, Ohio, husband Josh and step-grandchildren Braelyn, Jacob and Emily Rowe.

He is also survived by his Mother-in -law, Eloise Moore, sister Evelyn Furst Kramer of Bay City Michigan, Brother-in-law Robert Mitchell of Wilmington, N.C., Sister-in-law Margaret Moore Blum of Pensacola, husband Larry, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Nancy Furst Mitchell and his parents Dr. Burton and Alma Furst of New Buffalo, Michigan.

Dave retired from Lockheed Martin in 2001, and as any of his former work associated will tell you, he was an outstanding engineer. He was a graduate of Purdue University (1964) with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering and of the University of Missouri (1968) with a Master’s Degree in Engineering Mechanics. He considered it a privilege to work on numerous space and defense programs throughout his career. He would laughingly say that his work was now in the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum. In 2007 he came out of retirement to work on the Space Shuttle Replacement program in Huntsville, Al. returning home again in 2010 when the program was cancelled. He often said his loved his work, saying it was fun.

Dave met his wife while working at the Navy Base at Panama City Beach and considered the Bay County area his home. He was loved and will be greatly missed.
