On Sunday, November 21, 2021 Dr. Morris W. Denman, Jr., passed away at his home. He was 79 years old. Brother Morris was preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Morris W. Denman, Sr. He is survived by his wife Armanda Sue Holton Denman, three daughters: Sheri Hart (Chip), Marci Vaughn (Jed), and Sarah Giles (Mark), eight grandchildren: Jed K Vaughn III, Zachary Vaughn (Alexandria), Elijah Vaughn, Jesse Vaughn, Trent Hart (fiance Faith Yawn), Brenn Hart ( future fiance', Sophia Beecham ), David Giles and Anna Giles, and one future great-grandson due in March 2022. He is also survived by his brothers David Denman and Christopher Denman along with several nieces and nephews. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, mentor and friend, Brother Morris' life was characterized by obedience to the Word of God and faithfulness to the calling God placed on his life. He loved his family, he loved the church, and he loved to share the Gospel. Brother Morris pastored Cook Memorial Baptist Church for 19 years. He also pastored and served on staff at a number of local churches over the course of his ministry. At the time of his passing, he was the interim pastor at The Village Church. He was a graduate of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned his Master of Theology degree and Luther Rice Seminary where he earned his Doctorate of Ministry degree. He taught seminary classes through Luther Rice in Jacksonville, Fla., Pensacola, Fla., and Panama City, Panama. Brother Morris was active in the Northwest Coast Baptist Association, he served a term as the First Vice President of the Florida Baptist Convention and also served as a member of the board of trustees at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 10 years. He was a dedicated member of the conservative resurgence of the Southern Baptist Convention in the 1980s, working to return the Convention to its commitment to the inerrancy of Scripture. Most recently, Brother Morris had committed himself to mentoring a group of young men in his church, Grace Covenant. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27 at 11:00 AM at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Gamble and Dr. David Hecht officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends an hour before the funeral begins. His grandsons will serve as pall bearers. Honorary pall bearers will be Heath Dennison, Michael Dobbs, John Drummond, Jeremy Gilliam, Chase Hahn, Fred Myers, and Ben Wortman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Morris Denman to the scholarship fund at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, 2825 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40280 or to the scholarship fund at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, 5001 North Oak Trafficway, Kansas City, Missouri 64118.
