Edith Mayplet Mix
Edith Mayplet Mix was born May 24th, 1924, in Eagle, New York. She passed from life on earth to life in Heaven Sunday, August 11th, at the age of 95. She is predeceased by her husband, James Lewis Mix, daughter, Karen Mix Baker, parents, Leslie and Nina Washburn, brothers Lewelynn and Mark Washburn and son-in-law Wayne Hancock. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Mix Hancock, of Pensacola, Grandson, Kevin Hancock of Tampa, Grandaughter, Kimberly Schulze of Destin, Florida,Great Grandchildren Amie Bennett of Pensacola, Sophia and Ryan Hancock of Tampa, and sisters Lettie Yates, and Carol Bigelow, of Castile, New York, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Edith was a wonderful, loving and kind mother. She was a great cook and talented with arts and crafts. Edith, her husband, "Jimmy", and Sandra moved from Castile, New York (a small town 60 miles southeast of Buffalo), to Panama City, Florida in 1954 when he was offered a job with his brother and brother-in-law who owned Panama Trailer Sales. Edith was a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church since 1956 and worked as Assistant Director and Bookkeeper for the Child Development Center for over 35 years until her retirement at the age of 80.
Following her husband's death in 2012, she moved to Pensacola, Florida, to be near her daughter and son-in-law and lived at University Pines Retirement Home for one and one-half years until she fell and was hospitalized. Due to her dementia, she could no longer live alone and moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in 2013. During the next five and one-half years, she was treated at their home by Peoples Home Health and Emerald Coast Hospice. She was a very strong lady with a sweet spirit and she will be missed very much by her family and close friends.
The funeral service will be held at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral home Friday, August 16th in Panama City. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm and the funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm followed by graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
