EDWARD E. FINCH

Edward E. “Ed” Finch, 78, of Marianna, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family. Ed was born in Boston, GA, and raised on Foshalee Plantation, a large hunting plantation near Tallahassee. He was a 1959 graduate of Leon High School. After high school, Ed spent 4 years in the US Army, ending his service at the rank of Sergeant. He then worked with the Tallahassee Post Office before joining the Florida Highway Patrol in 1964, transferring to Marianna in 1967, where he retired in 1989, after 25 years service. He then became Range Master at the Chipola College Firing Range, teaching many law enforcement and correctional officers how to safely handle firearms. An avid outdoorsman, Ed loved fishing, deer hunting, golfing, and spending time on his property. Ed was a member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Welcome Assembly of God Church.

Ed was preceded in death by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 48 years, Sandy; his parents, Edward and Gertrude Finch; mother-in-law, Lucille Jones; brothers, James and Charles Finch; sister in law, Fleeta Bowling.

Survivors include his son, Eddie Finch, of Marianna; his daughter, Julie Collins and husband Brigadier General Heath Collins, of Bellbrook, OH; his grandsons, David and Nathan Collins; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Glenda Francis; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dale and Frances Jones; sister-in-law, Barbara Jones; and numerous other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Ed’s life will begin at 11:00 AM Monday, July 9,    2018, at Welcome Assembly of God Church with Rev. Steven Subel and Rev. Jack Hollis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until service time at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ed’s name may be made to either Welcome Assembly of God Church or Emerald Coast Hospice.
