Emily “Louise” Dykes Cox, age 100, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on October 12, 2019. Louise was born on January 30, 1919, in Coldwater, Kansas, to Kit and Emma Dykes, the third of six children. After graduating from Coldwater High School, Louise moved to Liberal, Kansas to attend beauty school and work as a cosmetologist. Louise and her sister, Fern, then traveled to Dayton, Ohio, to work Civil Service Wright-Patterson AFB. While there, Louise met and married her husband, Carolos “C.V.” Cox. They were stationed in Japan and the Philippines before settling in C.V.’s hometown of Panama City. Louise volunteered at her daughter’s schools in the classroom, health room, and lunch room, and was a Girl Scout Leader.
Louise was a bridge instructor, a member of the Widowed Person’s group, and Harvest Worship Center. She enjoyed playing bridge and reading.
Louise is survived by her daughters, Lanette Cox and Rita Kay; grandchildren, Jason Cox, Stephanie Kay, Donnie Cox, and Tonya Cox Oliver; great-grandsons, Nathan Courtney, Daylon Courtney, Traycen Mathes, Cain Cox, and Chase Cox and his son, Maverick Cox; brother-in-law, Jack Cox (Ruth); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, Carlos V. Cox; her sisters and brother, Margaret Miller, Fern McVey, Warren Ddykes, Marjorie Yanson, and Betty Youngblood; her nephews, Dennis McVey, Jay Youngblood, Dilly Dean Cox; her step-son, Clay Cox; and her grandson, Gary Cox.
Graveside service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, October 17, 2019 at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
