Esther Hacker Harmon passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones at 101 years of age on the afternoon of September 28, 2023. A lifetime follower of and believer in Jesus Christ, Esther was greeted in heaven by her late Husband, Leonard Orville Harmon, her parents father Andrew Jackson Hacker and mother Willie Pearl Hacker, a son Jack Allen Harmon “Al”, and a grandson Richard Harmon Walker “Rusty”. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Leonard Orville (Vickie) Harmon Jr. of Milledgeville, Georgia, Deborah H. Walker of Panama City Beach, Florida, Constance H. (Ollie) Hodges of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Kathleen H. Kirby of Panama City, Florida, 9 Grandchildren, and 16 Great Grandchildren.
Having lived through the Great Depression and World War II in the home of her parents in Knoxville Tennessee, Esther’s life included helping those less fortunate during the depression, and later serving her country as a USO Hostess. Esther’s family will remember that she was always ready with a good laugh, and always seeing the positive funny side of things. Esther was devoted to her husband and to the care of their 5 children throughout her life. Her children and grandchildren knew no greater comfort than to be under her loving care.
Having lived to celebrate her 100th Birthday Esther’s words of wisdom on living a long meaningful life were “to love each other and do for each other whenever you can.”.
Funeral Services will be held later in Knoxville, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so are asked to donate in Esther’s name to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
