Ethel Ingegard Holti Carlson died peacefully at home in Lynn Haven, Florida, on Wednesday, November 27, 2019. Born April 7, 1921, in Korsnas, Finland, Ethel was the daughter of Wilhelm and Ida Holti. She attended school in Finland and immigrated to the United States in 1939 at the age of 17. She lived in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she married her husband of 75 years, Carl Edwin Carlson, before moving to Hartford, Connecticut. Ed and Ethel moved to the panhandle of Florida in 1946 and later settled in Lynn Haven, Florida, where they lived out the remainder of their days. Though mostly a homemaker, Ethel worked for a time at Alatex Shirt Factory in St. Andrews in the late 40s and 50s. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, serving as an Elder of the Session, singing in the choir, and leading the Circle of Ruth which named her a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women. Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed Carlson, and her daughter, Janice Estelle Carlson McDonald. Ethel is survived by her son, Carl David (Carolyn) Carlson, of Tallahassee, Florida, and her son-in-law, Freddie McDonald, Sr. of Panama City, Florida. She was an amazing grandmother to 6 grandchildren, Carla McDonald Brookins, Karen McDonald Johnston, and Freddie McDonald, Jr., Kim Geranzani, Marie Carlson Teslo, and Tony Carlson, 17 great grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. She was loved by numerous nieces and nephews around the United States and Finland. In lieu of flowers and food, donations and gifts can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven. Friends will be received 10-11 am Monday at Lynn Haven Presbyterian Church where funeral services will take place that morning at 11 am. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
