Lieutenant Colonel Eugene Norwood Roberts, 89, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on January 19th, 2023. Gene was a highly decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam war earning the Distinguished Flying Cross twice, Six Air Medals, as well as honorary Taiwan Pilot Wings, for recognition of the utmost professional achievements in Military Aviation.
Gene was born on September 5th, 1933 in Sopchoppy, FL to his parents Malcom and Alma (McKenzie) Roberts. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, Father and Grandfather. Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jacqueline, brother Larry and his children, Judith Af Sillen (Claes), Linda Fernandez (Kurt), Barbara Roberts, Eugene Jr., Edwin (Rose Ann), Stephanie Roberts Moon and Jason (Candice), 14 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren.
He received his Bachelors of Accounting at Florida State University and his Masters in Business Administration at the University of West Florida. Gene was compassionate and was loved by many and will be dearly missed by family and friends. He will be buried at the family cemetery alongside his father and sister, Mary JoAnn Roberts Hadland.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:00am Monday, January 30, 2023 at St. Dominic Catholic Church with FR. Michael Nixon officiating. The family will receive guests from 5:00 until 7:00pm Sunday, January 29, 2023 at Kent-Forest Lawn funeral home with a rosary recited at 6:30pm
