FELIX LaVON BENNETT
Felix LaVon Bennett passed from this earthly existence and into the welcoming embrace of his Savior on 9-8-2019. He was born on May 6, 1932, in Jasper, FL, to Math Bennett and Iris Culbreth Bennett. Felix attended school in Jasper before joining the Army in 1950. He met and married the love of his life, LaHoma Burrell (also in the Army) while stationed at Ft. Benning in Columbus, GA in 1952. During his long military career, he served in the US and abroad. Felix's entire adult life was spent in service to his country. Felix served 3 years in the Army, 22 years in the Air Force, and 20 years of civil service at the National Marine Fisheries Service on Panama City Beach. Felix was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Callaway, and served many years as a deacon.
Felix was preceded in death by his parents, Math and Iris Bennett; his seven older siblings: Daisy, Roscoe, Inez, Bill, Bloxam, Thomas and Matthew; and his beloved wife of 50 years, LaHoma. He is survived by three daughters, Denise Jones of Kansas City, MO, Nina Anders (Bill) of Vernon, FL and Michele Robarts (Greg) of Lynn Haven, FL; 6 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jessie Dasher officiating. Interment with military honors offered by the US Air Force Honor Guard will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the First Baptist Church of Callaway Building Fund, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. The family wishes to extend their gratitude and sincere thanks to Dr. Bruce Josten, Dr. Hasan Murshed, Covenant Care, and NHC.
