Fernando “Tony” Cruz Jr., 70, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2021 in Panama City, Florida. Tony retired as a Master Sergeant after 20 years of service the United States Air Force. He served in Operations Desert Storm, Desert Shield, and Provide Comfort in Iraq. As a Contracting Craftsman, Tony and his family were stationed all around the world to include the United States, Philippines, Norway, Turkey, and Germany. He was proud to serve his country; and as a proud Airman, he was never seen without wearing or displaying the Air Force insignia. Sir Knight Tony was an active, devoted member of the Knights of Columbus. He earned the ranking of 4th degree, which is the highest and most prestigious degree within the Knights of Columbus. Tony was a selfless, humble, and kind man who lived a great life. Much of it was in the service of God, family, friends, and total strangers for whom he always made time. Tony enjoyed traveling the world to spend time with his family and to enjoy new experiences and adventures. He loved eating seafood, dancing, listening to the Beatles, basketball, and watching Tagalog programs. He loved to socialize and was active in many social groups. He made and kept lifelong friends everywhere his travels took him, starting with his group of friends from his youth in the Philippines “the Anacleto Boys.” Above all, he was proud of his daughters and especially his granddaughter. He is survived by Nelia M. Cruz, BSN (married 1978-2006); daughters SSgt Margarita “Joy/Jaycee” Cruz Galvez (USAF Ret) & Kristina “Kris” Cruz Smith; granddaughter Jada Charisse Galvez; parents Gloria C. Nichols & stepfather SSgt Linwood W. Nichols (USAF Ret); siblings SGT Alberto “Danny” Geronimo (US Army Ret) & L. Dewey Nichols (Corporate Jet Captain).
