We are deeply sorry for your loss - the staff at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemeteries
George Preston Evans, 83, of Panama City, Florida, passed on from this life on Sunday, June 12, 2022. He was born on August 3, 1938 in Washington County, Florida.
A true Southern gentleman, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor, often bursting into laughter before he could finish one of his many stories. After graduating from Vernon (FL) High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force, studied art in Atlanta, then later worked as a graphical artist at the world's then-largest urban planning firm in Chicago before moving back home to Florida, where he later spent many years in real estate. A talented artist, he spent his free time working on abstract and expressionist paintings. He doted on his daughter’s French bulldog Elvis and enjoyed cooking for friends and relatives. Deeply spiritual, he truly loved country drives and connecting with God out in nature and enjoying the beauty of the Florida panhandle.
He is predeceased by his parents, George Culbert Evans and Annie Velma Forrester (née Williams), sister Robbie Aurelia Douglas and brothers Purvis Culbert Evans and Julious Preemon Evans.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved daughter Maria Evans Herborn and son-in-law Joshua Herborn of Chicago, nieces Susan (Jim) Nall and Gayle (Larry) McLemore of Panama City, nephew Rick (Shelli) Moseley of Denver, best friend Sara Sue Wolfert of Panama City, and cherished in-laws Judy and Dan Herborn of Richland, Washington.
Friends and family are welcomed to attend a memorial service to be held this Sunday, June 19 at 10:00am at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2403 Harrison Ave, Panama City, Florida, with interment to follow with immediate family at Wausau Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society and American Heart Association.
