Tribute

Helen Mary Valante, 86, of Panama City, Florida was born June 24, 1933 and passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2019.
Helen was the daughter of Helen B. Baker and the sister of the late Barbara Hallisey. As a child, Helen grew up in Newton, Massachusetts where she was involved in the Girl Scouts as a young girl and graduated from Newton High School. Helen then went on to raise her family in Rockland, Massachusetts. While bringing up her five children, she also opened up her heart and home to The Catholic Charities Organization and fostered several children whom she loved dearly.
In her later years, Helen moved from the cold of New England to the warmth and sunshine of Florida with her sister Barbara and her husband Richard Hallisey. Together they had a home full of love and fun and became involved in many community and charitable projects. Helen especially enjoyed sewing and quilting for her family and friends and would often gift them with a handmade quilt. She eventually brought her works to craft shows and fairs in the local area and made many friends along the way who were always amazed by her beautiful skills. Over the years she used her crafting skills to create blankets and clothing to donate to organizations such as The Linus Project, The Wounded Warrior Project, Hospice Project, and Panama City Mission, which made clothes for children in Africa. She also volunteered as a registrar for the local Ironman Competition. Helen had many dear friends who joined her and her interest in crafting as members of Noah’s Arc of Panama City Beach and The Sea Needles.
A beloved mother, Helen is survived by her children Mark Valante, Diane Gregersen and her husband Mike, Glen Valante and his wife Lynne, Christopher Valante and his wife Kristina, and her daughter Michelle Valante. Helen, “Nana”, was incredibly proud of and loved by her grandchildren; Emily, Brian, Thomas, Olivia and Evan.
Visitation will start at 1:00 P.M. followed by funeral services to be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday September 20, 2019 at Kent- Forest Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating.
