Tribute

The family of Jackie Eugene Lauderdale sadly announces that he peacefully passed away at age 86 in his sleep in Cedar Grove, FL, on November 16, 2023.

He was the 6th of 7 born to James Henry Lauderdale and Bercie Bernard Fulton-Lauderdale in Birmingham, AL, on November 25, 1936. His family moved around to a few different cities and eventually settled down in Panama City, FL, which is where Jackie called home for the rest of his life.

Jackie served in the United States Air Force for 8 years. After he was discharged, he met and married the love of his life, Ruth (Ruthie) Glen Thomas-Lauderdale whom he loved dearly for 59 wonderful years.

While grounding his roots and establishing his family and home in Panama City, Florida Jackie and Ruth enjoyed a lifetime of traveling together and seeing the world. Jackie worked at the Paper Mill for 38 years until he retired in 2006. He was extremely hard working and his work ethic and plethora of projects demonstrated that. He did everything to an exceptional standard of excellence that was second nature to his character. He was an expert at building and remodeling houses, including the home that his daughter, Melanie Ezzell, and her family reside in. Not only did he find joy with his family & construction projects, but he also loved and found happiness in his daily activities of raising his Angelfish, spending time with his pets, gardening, nothing was more important than spending time with his family. Up until his very last day, Jackie was exceedingly active strong man and so full of life.

Of all of Jackie's many accomplishments and milestones, he was most proud of his marriage and life that he shared with his beloved wife, Ruthie. He was known by his family as Jackie, Husband, Daddy, Brother, and Papa.

He is survived by his brother Kenneth, his daughter Melanie Ezzell, son Bryon Keith Lauderdale, grandchildren Cristi Lauderdale, Jessica Lauderdale, Cody Ezzell, Cory Ezzell, Courtney Ezzell, Kaitlyn Ezzell, Lexi Ezzell, and great grandchildren Taylor Young, Christian Suggs and many nephews and nieces.

Jackie was preceded by his wife Ruthie, his son Jackie Eugene Jr. (Gene), his parents James & Bercie, his 5 siblings James Jr., Marie, Bonnie, William (Bebo), and Donald (Bunky), and his grandson Cameron Ezzell.

He was so generous, intelligent, loving, kind, funny, a friend to everyone he met, overall an exceptional person. He will forever be held in a dear and special place in everyone's hearts.

A celebration of Jackie's life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 2, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Panama City with Pastor David Flatt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.
