James Robert Andrews was born May 2, 1935 in Ozark, Alabama and died peacefully in his sleep July 30, 2021 in Crawfordville, FL after losing his home to Hurricane Michael and relocating to his daughter’s home. He was married to Verna Mae Andrews (deceased) for 66 years. They had five children, Ginger Hale of Arkansas, Shirley Hall of Nebraska, Judy Grubbs of Florida and her husband Tim, Janet Smith of Florida, and James Robert, Jr of Florida and his wife Janette. They leave also 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind four sisters Dorothy of Alabama, Mary of Alabama, Carol of Alabama and Carolyn and her husband Ronny of Florida, and a brother Sherman and his wife JoAnn of Alabama. How do you put in a few words a person’s life? Dad was many things to so many people. He loved his wife, his children, grandchildren, relatives, friends, and neighbors! He wanted to always make sure no one was going to need something and he could have done something about it. He always made sure he asked “Is there anything you need or is there anything I can do to help you”? He was eager to please. Dad spent most of his adult life in the Air Force. In this venture he made great sacrifices to provide for his family and for his love of his country and democracy. He also worked for the Bay County School Board for many years where he worked for the athletic department at Tommie Oliver Stadium. He even had an article on how good Tommie Oliver stadium was doing when he was taking care of it. He loved to fish and he taught every one of his children how to fish. He loved to garden that was his little secret… He made the garden ready and planted everything and worried when something planted did not grow well. He loved to make things grow. He loved talking to family, friends and neighbors. Dad loved country music especially Tammy Wynette and he loved to give you a serenade. His life was centered around pleasing others. He wanted to make sure people had what they needed and they were comfortable and happy. Thank you Dad for your guidance, wisdom and for being there for us to help us grow to become the people you said you are so proud of all your children and our accomplishments and you were so blessed with us all. We too have been greatly blessed for you! The love Dad had for his family and everyone he knew continues to grow and will live on in us all, and that is the ultimate measure of any human being. “Love leaves a memory no one can steal, but death leaves a memory no one can heal.” We love you, Dad. You are greatly missed!
