Sasser, Jep David
Jep David Sasser, 82 of Wewahitchka passed away on Tuesday, January 7, at Gulf Coast Community Hospital. J.D. was born in Brantley, Alabama, to Cyrus and Doris Sasser in 1937. The family moved to Crestview Florida, where J.D. graduated from Crestview High School in 1955.
After four years in the U.S. Navy, J.D. went to work for Vitro Services as a radar technician and later a site chief. J.D.’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and watching sports – especially University of Alabama football. He played the baritone ukulele, and was well known at the Lookout Lounge for his karaoke versions of country standards, as well as his spoon playing.
J.D. is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George Sasser.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Sasser; four children: Donna Funck (Brent), David Sasser, Diane Neal, and Denise Knight (Kevin); nine grandchildren: Brenna, Molly, Joe, and Emilie Funck, Matthew Sasser, Miranda Stopplebein (Fritz), Daniel Neal, Kristen Macomber (Heath), and Kaleb Pursewell; and seven great-grandchildren: Phenyx and Liam Sasser, Emma, Harper, and Hazel Stopplebein, Jarrett and Wesley Spencer.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 12 at The Lookout Lounge, 8066 West Hwy 98, Port St. Joe Beach, at 3:30pm.
A Memorial scholarship has been set up in his name. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the “JD Sasser Outdoor Education Scholarship” at any Trustmark Bank or sent to Trustmark 2315 S Hwy 77 Lynn Haven, FL 32444.
