John (Jack) Gerard Hollwedel of Panama City Beach, Florida, died February 18, 2021 at Clifford Chester Sims State Veterans Affairs Nursing Home in Springfield, Florida. He had been a resident of Panama City Beach since 1975, moving here from Chevy Chase, MD. He was an engineer for Vega Precision Labs of Vienna, VA and had been employed at Tyndall Air Force Base as Company Field Representative. John was a graduate of Pratt University and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. He proudly served our country during World War II as a Communications Technician Sergeant Fourth Grade. He received the American Campaign Medal World War II Victory Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. John was a parishioner at St Bernadette Catholic Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He is survived by his loving wife Claudette Hollwedel; a brother Matthew Hollwedel of West Salem, NY; one son John D. and his wife Meg Hollwedel of Arlington, VA; one daughter Nancy and her husband Peter Zulkofske of Shallotte, NC; his step sons Ron and Chris Trapp; step daughters Patricia Lewis and Cindy Roque; Eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents John and Loretta Hollwedel; and his late wife Gladys Hollwedel. He was a lover of life, dedicated to God and family, enjoyed engineering as a trade and hobby, served as a Long Island, NY lifeguard, played basketball at Madison Square Garden, loved to travel and had a smile for everyone. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in Jack’s honor to your favorite charity or organization.
