Johnny B Newsome

Johnny B. Newsome, 74 of Chipley, FL passed away September 16, 2020 at Gulf Coast Regional Hospital. Johnny B. was born January 24, 1946 in Panama City to Eddie B. Newsome and Fannie Verna (Daniel) Dortch and remained a life-long resident of Bay & Washington Counties. He was a member of the first graduating class of Rutherford High School, Class of ’64 and was the first person to be named Mr. Baseball and Mr. Football in Bay County. Johnny B. was a Master Electrician having been employed with State and Roberts Electric and worked on many commercial construction projects including the Panama City Mall and the Naval Coastal Systems. Johnny B. was a true outdoorsman and was an avid Hunter and Fisherman. Johnny B. is preceded in death by his parents, the mother of his children, Brenda Newsome and his sisters, Florine Pearis and Lois Holyfield. He is survived by his loving companion of over 23 years, Betty Moore of Chipley; his children, Mike (Laura) Newsome of Kannapolis, NC, Lynn (Brent) Purvis of Enterprise, AL and Jason Newsome of Chipley, his extended family, Tina (Ricky) Locher and Kenny (Sharon) Moore all of Panama City, his siblings, Agnes Richardson of Chipley, Laverne Walters of Panama City, Billy Joe (Shannon) Newsome of Washington County, Wayne (Michelle) Newsome of Panama City and Sam (Cindy) Dorch of Chipley, FL, a brother-in-law, James Holyfield of Chipley, his grandchildren, Connor & Ashlyn Purvis, Chloe & Yates Newsome, Jordan Moore and Blake & Brooke Locher and a special great-grandson, Holden Locher. Friends will be received 4:00-5:30 pm Sunday at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home where funeral services will take place that afternoon at 5:30 pm. Interment will take place privately Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Johnny’s memory to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
