Joseph Lanier Wright, age 94, of Panama City, Florida, passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021. He is survived by his wife, Janette Rushing Wright, of 68 years; three daughters, Joette Mashburn (Jerry) of Panama City, Debbie May (Greg) of Panama City Beach, and Kay Richbourg (Randy) of Panama City; grandchildren Dallas and Brandon Bruner, Shelby May and Jordan and Dakota Richbourg and six great-grandchildren. He was born on July 7, 1926 in Rutledge, Alabama to the late Ernest and Monroe Wright and is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Coleman Wright and Nellie Gibson. He served in the United States Navy from May 26, 1944 to February 20, 1946. He graduated from the University of Alabama in 1948 and taught school for nine years in Alabama until moving to Panama City in 1960 at which time he was employed by Bay District Schools as an educator at Lynn Haven Elementary School for 26 years until his retirement in 1986. He was a Master Mason at Acme lodge 222, a member of the Elks Lodge, the St. Andrew Mens’ Club, and a member of St. Andrew Baptist Church. Among his hobbies were baseball, football, fishing and golfing. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 22, 2021 at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Michael Claunch, Pastor, St. Andrew Baptist Church officiating.
