Margaret Craig Newbury

May 25, 1946 ~ April 29, 2020 (age 73)

Margaret Craig Newbury (Moir), 73 of Panama City FL, passed away peacefully on 29 April 2020.

Margaret was born on 25 May 1946 in Rothesay Scotland, on the Isle of Bute. She and her family relocated to Corby, England when she was 8 where she remained through her adolescent and early adult years. She married Michael Newbury in 1970 and in 1972 bravely followed her “yank” across the pond to start a new life in America. Never truly leaving England behind, the family would spend the following years bouncing back and forth between the U.S. and UK, taking in the best each has to offer, before finally settling down in Panama City, FL in 1987.

Margaret was a lover of roses, yellow daffodils, pigs, dogs, cats and anything purple. She was a keen netballer, accomplished baseball coach and catcher, and at times, an avid fisherwoman. She also enjoyed knitting, shopping, reading and gossiping with her friends and family over a hot cuppa. Margaret was a fan of old war movies, Elvis Presley music (and Tom Brady). She was also an avid supporter of the Atlanta Braves and Florida State Seminoles. She cherished the time she spent with her grandson and loved nothing more than cheering him on as she watched him play baseball and basketball. As mom she was the perfect “teacher of life”, an expert at lending an ear and advice. She was equally adept at both hugging and shoe throwing. As wife, she was both faithful companion and friend, never faltering in her love and devotion. She was an irreplaceable team member of the famous “Call mom and I’ll do it” posse.

Margaret was a mom and nana to so many more than her own. She will be missed by many and will be forever alive in our hearts. She is survived by her husband Michael Newbury, daughter Karen Moir, son Michael Newbury Jr, sisters Katherine Moir and Agnes Lyons and grandson Michael Newbury III. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Aria Moir (McKenzie).

A celebration of life will be planned and announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to the Dementia Society of America.

“Smiles in the sunshine and tears in the rain
Still take me back where my memories remain
Flickering embers go higher and higher
As they carry me back to the Mull of Kintyre”
