Marie S Chaknis

Marie Chaknis, daughter of Marion Harrison and Anne Tucker,  was born in Calhoun Falls, SC on August 29, 1937.  The Harrison family moved to Panama City in 1953 and Marie attended Bay High School, graduating  class of 1955.  She married John Chaknis on April 1, 1956 in St. Johns Catholic Church.   They had four children, Mark Chaknis (1957), Paul Chaknis (1959), Christopher Chaknis (1960-1960) and Teresa Weeks (1961).  Marie leaves behind two beautiful granddaughters, Sara Chaknis (2000) and Katie Weeks (2004).  

Marie was in advanced Alzheimers disease and suffered a stroke.  Emerald Coast Hospice kept her comfortable in her final days.  She passed at her daughters home in Panama City surrounded by loved ones, at 83 years of age.  

Marie had a special, kind and loving personality.  She touched everyone she met and never met a stranger.  She always seemed to know the right words that someone needed to hear or give that hug that someone needed at that moment.  She was an incredible mother, grandmother, aunt, sister in law, and friend.

She was extremely passionate about animals, especially cats.  Her cats were a comfort to her particularly during her years of mental decline.  She was fortunate to be able to stay in her home with her cats and have patient and loving care given by her son.

She will rest in the Evergreen Cemetery beside her son, Christopher and several other beloved relatives.
