At the age of 91, Marilyn Beth Sykes Sandell of Panama City, FL passed away peacefully at the home of her loving daughter, Deborah, on April 23, 2024.

She was born in Scranton, PA on August 21,1932 to the late Fredrick and Margaret Sykes.

Predeceased in death by her husband, James Sandell, Jr., and her brother, Fredrick Sykes, Jr.

She is survived by her four children, Curtis Sandell (Teresa), Holly Kincaid (Greg), Deborah Broadwater (Richard), and James Sandell III, as well as her eight grandchildren, Samantha Lacko (Chris), Colby Sandell, Emily Burch, (Robert), Trista North, Traci Broadwater, Jayme Untiedt (Steve), Lisa Broadwater, and Tanner Sandell, 14 great-grandchildren, and two great- great grandchildren.

Marilyn graduated from Harford High School, Harford, PA and moved to Washington D.C., where she worked for the State Department. She married Jim in 1952 and together, they followed his Air Force career. After tours in Mississippi, Canada, Delaware, and Texas, they settled in Panama City in 1980. She worked for the Air Force, retiring in 2002. Her last working years were spent as the Executive Assistant to the Commander, 325th Medical Group, Tyndall AFB where, among many awards, she received the Tactical Air Command Surgeon General Real Pro Award. She cherished the lifelong friendships she made at the Group.

Marilyn was active at Parkway Presbyterian Church as a member of the choir and the bell choir. With her dear friends from Beautiful Ladies Sunday School Class, she traveled to Alaska and enjoyed many dinners and events together. She delivered Meals on Wheels, was an avid reader, and loved to paint and garden. She traveled in Europe and the States after retirement, but her happiest times were spent with her family, just being Nanny.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 1,2024 at 11 A.M. at Parkway Presbyterian Church, 505 S. Tyndall Parkway Panama City, FL with Pastor Kim Stavenau officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service at 10: 00 A.M.

A private interment will be held at Kent Forest Lawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church.
