Marlene Minch Womack, 77, died on June 11, 2017 in Panama City. She was born in Linden, N.J. on January 19, 1940. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Frank & Stella Minch; her husband of 45 years, Loy A. Womack; and her two sons, Michael Andrew Womack and Matthew Jesse Womack; and her brother-in-law, Troy A. Womack.

She is survived by her son, Fred L. Womack, and wife, Bethany; three grandchildren, Ally Womack, Andrew Womack and Di Anna Rene Womack. She is also survived by a brother, Frank H. Minch and his wife, Arlene; their two children, nephew, Frank J. Minch and wife, Pam; and niece, Christine Minch Molitor and husband, Pat. Other family members are her daughter-in-law, Lisa Womack Solots; sister-in-law, Clara E. Womack; and niece, Avie B. May.

Marlene attended and graduated from Linden, N.J. public schools. She also attended West Florida and Florida State Universities. She was a member of the Bay County Historical Society and the Bay County Genealogy Society. Marlene was very proud of the fact that she lived in Panama City 44 years because she loved this area. Most mornings she could be found in the Local History Room of the Bay County Public Library.

She worked and retired from the U.S. Census Bureau as a Field Representative. Marlene wrote the “Out of the Past” column in the News-Herald for 35 years. She also was the author of nine
books: “Along the Bay,” “The Bay Country,” “The Rich Heritage of Panama City Beach,” “War Comes to Florida’s Northern Coast,” “Moonshine Madness,” “Anchor of the Bay,” “Centennial Stories,” “The Magic of Cape San Blas,” and “Ghost Towns, Mysteries, and Tombstone Tales.”

Funeral services will be held at 10am Friday, June 16, 2017 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6-8pm Thursday, June 15, 2017 at the funeral home.
