Senior Chief, Michael Robert Johnson, “Doc”, USN, ret., of Lynn Haven, passed away January 11, 2020 at Southeast Hospital in Dothan, AL. Michael was born on January 18, 1948 in Providence, RI, the son of Robert and Bessie Johnson. In 1980, Michael’s military career brought him to the Dive Locker at NCSC, Panama City; he transferred to Naval Special Warfare Unit, Seal Team 4, and back where he served as a Dive Instructor at the Navy Experimental Diving Unit, NSA Panama City. Michael was married 39 years to his wife Sandra, and they resided in Lynn Haven. Michael proudly served his country and retired after 26 years of service in the United States Navy. Michael’s devotion to his country and community continued with a civil service career as an engineering technician with the Naval Service Warfare Center, NSA Panama City. After retirement, Michael continued service to his community as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff with the Bay County Sheriff’s Office from 1996 to 2007. Regularly, he volunteered his time to the Panama City Rescue Mission helping and providing counseling to others. Michael is preceded in death by his son, James Holiday Johnson and his mother, Bessie Johnson. Michael leaves behind many close and dear friends. January 24th, friends will be received from 3 pm to 4 pm at Kent Forest Lawn with services immediately following. A private interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
