Mildred H Brannon

Mildred Marie Hornsby Fulford Brannon, age 94, of Panama City, passed away January 12, 2022 at her home. Mildred was born July 12, 1927 in Samson, Alabama to Chester Hornsby and Cordie (Byrd) Hornsby. After becoming a widow at 28 with two small children, she courageously enrolled at Troy State Teacher College where she achieved a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education in three and a half years. Moving to Panama City, Mildred joined the Immanuel Baptist Church in 1958 and began her 33 year career as a beloved elementary school teacher at Millville Elementary School. She was a member of the Tau Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority for teachers and was elected Teacher of the Year at Millville School for 1989-90. After her retirement, Mildred enjoyed many years as a member and officer of the Panama City Garden Club.

Mildred was married in 1948 to Bryant Fulford. He was killed in a tragic accident in 1955. She later married Terrell M. Brannon in 1967 who preceded her in death in 1998. She is predeceased by her siblings, Cecil, Horton, Eva, Dink (David), Dora, and Collis; a sister(-in-law), Allie Mae Brannon; as well as her son-in-law Thomas Watson and step-daughter Dianne Cave. Mildred is survived by her daughter, Beverly Watson, son, Barry Fulford, and step-son Rex Brannon; her brothers Louie Hornsby and Shirley Hornsby; her grandchildren, Bryant Watson and family, Joshua Watson and family, David Fulford and family, Ashley Fulford, Phil Cave, Terry Cave, and Bradley Cave, Tammy Hoffman and family, Tracy Brannon and family; special extended family Jimmy & Frances Watson; as well as a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation for the support of the nurses and staff of Emerald Coast Hospice.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 2403 Harrison Avenue, Panama City, FL 32405. Friends will be received for visitation 1:00-2:00 pm, with services taking place at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. If preferred, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to charities of your choice in her memory.
