Robert L. Jordan, Jr.

April 7, 1928 ~ July 13, 2020 (age 92) 92 Years Old

Tribute

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Robert Lee Jordan Jr. announces that he passed peacefully on July 12, 2020 in Panama City, Fl at the age of 92. Robert was born in Bay Springs, MS on April 7, 1928 to parents Robert Lee Jordan, Sr. & Lorena Jordan. He was raised in Laurel, MS where unbeknown to him at the time, he met his one and only Ann in the 3rd grade. Robert & Ann would later be wed in Norfolk, Virginia on June 21, 1951, and eventually move to Panama City, FL in 1956 where they raised their family. Prior to that, Robert proudly served in the United States Navy. After serving in the Navy, he completed his education at Jones County Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi finishing with a Master’s Degree in 1956.

Robert, or as most of you would call him – Bob, Bud, Mr. Jordan, or Side Door Jordan – was driven by his passion for education and his community. Throughout his career in the school systems he impacted the lives of many students, teachers, & collogues along the way. Something he often spoke fondly of. Yes, we have heard all of your “side door” stories! One of his proudest accomplishments was his role as a founding member of A. Crawford Mosley High School and his work he completed during his time there. Even after his retirement in 1997 he continued to volunteer at Mosley High School because being a Dolphin was truly a lifestyle for him. Outside of the school system, he was educating students serving as an active member of Forest Park Methodist Church teaching Sunday school for 28 years.

He was an upstanding man both in his personal life and in his community. He worked hard from early in his childhood, remained humble, and although he was one of the most stubborn men, he had the biggest heart and a love that was unmatched. We will miss his hugs that squeeze the life out of you, his waves from the front window every time you left the house, and his strong will and guidance. The world has truly lost an incredible man, but those we love are never really lost to us – we feel them in so many special ways. So, we ask that you hold onto to those special memories of Robert (Mr. Jordan) and join us as we celebrate his life and the incredible man he was to us all.

Robert is predeceased by his wife, Ann Jordan. He is survived by his 3 children; 1 son, Robert A. Jordan (Selma); 2 daughters, Debbie Jordan-Rafiyan and Leann Jordan-Summers Cowen (Hal); 9 grandchildren, Robert Lee Jordan, III, Christina Lownie (Joseph), Briana Rafiyan-Williams (Michael), Jordan Summers, Spencer Summers, Seth Summers, Tanner Summers, Trevor Summers, & Addison Summers; & 4 great Carmen Williams, Ja’Niya Williams, Bryson Williams, & Sophia Williams.
