ROBERT F. MYERS

Colonel Robert F. Myers, USAF, ret., 93 of Panama City Beach, passed away Friday, August 11, 2017. Col. Myers grew up in Darien, NY, the son of the late Carl F. and Mildred T. Myers. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces November 16, 1942, and retired April 30, 1975, after over 32 years of active military service. A Command Pilot with over 5000 hours flying time, he served his country during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. His decorations included the Legion of Merit, Air Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, and numerous other service medals. He and his wife moved to Bay Point in 1981, and he soon became active in community affairs. A longtime volunteer at the Bay County Council on Aging, he always said delivering "Meals on Wheels" was the most rewarding work a volunteer could do. Col Myers served on a number of local and county boards and committees, was a member of the Panama City Lions Club, the Order of Daedalians, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. He also volunteered at the John Lee Outreach Center and the Welcome Center at Beaches International Airport.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Inez Ridout of Birmingham, AL and his sister, Mrs. F. B. Stubinger of Buffalo, NY. Survivors include his daughter, Karen of Raleigh, NC; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene Redden of Olean, NY and Mrs. Willard Wolfley of Alexander, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Memorilization will be by cremation. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 AM Thursday, August 17, 2017 at St. Bernadette Catholic Church celebrated by Fr. Ted Sosnowski and Fr. David Oshea. In lieu of flowers, his friends who wish to do so are encouraged to contribute to their favorite charity. Col. Myers will be inurned at Batavia, NY National Cemetery at a later date.
