ROGER PERRY SCHAD

Roger Perry Schad passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, March 21, 2019. Roger was born in Norfolk, VA, graduated from Foley High School in Alabama, received a Bachelor of Education degree at Auburn University, and a MS in Business from University of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Virginia A. Schad, Son Perry L. Schad and sister Carolyn S. Northrup. He is survived by his daughter Tavie Cobb and her husband Arnie of Newnan, GA; granddaughters Caitlyn Cobb, Melanie Weathers, Carrie Schad and three great granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews and close family friend Liz Taunton.

Roger was an Army veteran of the Korean War serving with the 28th Infantry Division. He was a retired banker with 42 years of service in banking, in Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.
Roger believed in being involved in his community. He served as a Lynn Haven City Commissioner for 20 years. In recognition of his service the city named the amphitheater in his honor and awarded him as Grand Marshal for the 4th of July parade in 2018. He was instrumental in restoring the Lynn Haven Rotary Club and received the Paul Harris Award from Rotary International which is the highest recognition the organization awards for his service. Roger served on various boards including the Central Panhandle Chapter American Red Cross, Kiwanis Club, Early Childhood Services, Panama City Downtown Improvement Board, Panama City Music Association, and St. Andrews Bay Center. He was the founder and organizer of Concerts in the Park, Panama City and Summer Music Festival, Lynn Haven.Roger conducted exhaustive research into Liberty Ships produced by Wainwright Shipyard and amassed information on every keel laid at that facility. He was considered by his peers as a leading authority on Liberty Ships.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated, and there will be no viewing. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church Community Life Center, Panama City. The family will receive friends at the FUMC Community Life Center from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM until the service at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made to the Panama City Pops and Panama City Jazz Society in his memory.
