For being a mentor and a great friend; for your years in the US Forest Service fighting wildfires and working to ensure that future generations had forests to enjoy; for your years in the USDA P.S.W Bark Beetle Research department at the Institute of Forest Genetics assisting to develop a more complete understanding of the chemical ecology of destructive forest insects and helping to pioneer innovative ways to control them; for protecting your fellow employees (most of whom were young students like I was at the time) in research from the horrible (and now convicted) pedophile supervisor under which we suffered, and were forced for years to endure because the system protected him; for your never wavering beliefs regarding America and the rights of it's citizens, and your always ready wit and smile for friends and strangers alike. For these things and so many more I thank you and honor your memory my friend, and will continue to do so until time takes me too. You stood up for your beliefs and your rights and served your country for decades. In many ways the government and society let you down but you still held true to your deep and enduring love of the United States of America to the end. Thank you for your service, and thank you for taking the time to show a wet behind the ears young man everything you knew about forestry, good music, and life in general. As the last surviving member of the "Bark Beetle Commandos" which you created in 1989 I lift a cup and salute You, Ronald D. Gaskill. You will not be forgotten my friend.
