Tribute

Ronald Earl Prater, 84, of Panama City Beach passed away Monday Feb 17, 2020. He was born on April 30, 1935 in Kenton, Ohio, and made his way to Panama City in the mid-1950’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Ann Prater. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda; his children Ann (Steve) Berher, Rick Prater, and Robby Prater; and his grandchildren Kelly, Kyle (Hailey), Emma, Luke, and Ella. He is also survived by his brothers Jerry (Mary) Prater and Jim Prater; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was the chairman of the Parks and Recreation Board which was instrumental in constructing Frank Brown Park, where he was a constant in the youth sports leagues for over 15 years coaching baseball and football. An avid Florida State fan, he and his wife rarely missed a home football game in 45 years as Seminole Boosters.

He was involved in many sports and spent over 25 years officiating high school and JUCO basketball. He also played football, fast pitch softball, golf, and loved to hunt turkey and deer. He was a family man who got great joy in watching his grandkids carry on his spirit.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, February 28, at Woodlawn Methodist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Donations may be made in Ron’s memory to Woodlawn Methodist Church to support the Backpack Blessings and the Preschool.
