Roy Lee Thornton, 85, of Panama City, passed away July 26, 2022 at his home. Roy was born October 18, 1936 in Panama City, FL to James Thornton and Clara Johnson Thornton. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jane Thornton; his parents, and a grandson, Timothy Parsons. Roy and Jane were united in marriage on June 14, 1958 and lived in Nashville and Atlanta before moving back to Panama City.
Roy began his career working for Tetley Tea Company. While living in West Columbia, SC he worked as a District Manager for Drackett Company, a primary competitor in the homeware products market. In 1976 he moved to Nashville, TN to work for Boyle Midway until his retirement in 1995 after which he and his wife returned to Panama City. Roy was a member of Hiland Park Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughters, Gaye Parsons of Nashville, Carla (Brian) Ivey of Vicksburg, MS and Janet (Bobby) Patton of Braselton, GA; his grandchildren, Jennifer Yates, Aubrey Gephart and Kendall Parsons, Joseph and Daniel Ivey, Katie and Riley Patton; and his great-grandchildren, Ryan Metzler, Aiden Deal, Evan and Skylar Parsons, Sydney Gephart, Stella and Amelia Ivey, Payce, Hattie, Abram and Eden Ivey, Kap and Kohen McDaniel and Roman Gonzalez.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice, Madison, Angelic and Chaplain Craig for all their loving care and support.
Friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Brian Ivey will officiate. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
