Sally S. Whitley, 86, of Lynn Haven, Florida, passed away on November 18th, 2018 in Panama City, Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven, with Lisa Martin, lead pastor officiating.
Sally was born in Portland, Oregon to Mark and Eva Shields on January 14th, 1932. She spent part of her life in Los Angeles and later moved to Phoenix, where she met her future husband Paul Whitley. They were married September 3, 1955 in Phoenix, Arizona. Sally served in the United States Army from 1950-1952 as a Morse code operator. During her service in the Army, she was also a member of the Army women’s national championship-winning volleyball team. She was an involved member of the American Legion Post 356 in Lynn Haven and the Panama City Historical Society. She was also a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven where she served as a Ruling Elder. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and caring for her beloved “furry friends”.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents Mark and Eva Shields, brother Peter, and sister Barbara.
Sally is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Paul Whitley; daughter Sharon Whitley; son Scott and spouse Paige; daughter Susan “Dee Dee” Wood and spouse Michael; son Mark Whitley and spouse Karen. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lauren and spouse Taylor Hudson, Paul Ryerkerk, and Lauren and Lindsey Peavy.
Memorials may be given to First Presbyterian Church of Lynn Haven.
