Sr. Master Sergeant, Thomas Lynn Owens, USAF, ret., 80 of Panama City, passed away Saturday November 23, 2019 at Gulf Coast Hospital. Thomas was born December 8, 1938 in Panama City to John and Mattie (Smith) Owens. Thomas is retired from the USAF with over 28 years of service to his country and served during the Viet Nam War. Upon his retirement, Thomas continued his career as a civilian working at the Panama City Beach Naval Base as a Police Officer and also in the base supply command. He is preceded in death by his parents as well as a daughter, Beverly Owens; his sisters, Hazel Comer, Verdell McCoy, Elnora Pittman, Eva McElroy and Genie Mae Watson; brothers, John, Jack, Oliver and Moses Owens. He is survived by his wife, Song of Panama City; his sons, Kinam Hong of Paris, France, John Owens of Orlando and Lawrence Mendies of New Jersey; daughters, Brenda Lowery of Delaware, Evelyn Mendies of Tampa and Yolanda Mendies of Ft. Walton; a brother, Joe Owens of Pensacola; a sister, Martha Edith Owens and his granddaughters, Jaleni Lynn Owens and Mia Lynn Owens. Memorial services will take place 11 am Thursday, December 5, 2019 at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
