Virginia Lee McCarthy

Virginia Lee McCarthy, 85, passed away on Saturday September 19, 2020 at her home in Panama City, FL. Virginia was born on September 23, 1934 in Detroit, Michigan. She resided in Hazel Park, Michigan for many years while being employed as a secretary for the Chrysler Company. The love of her life, James McCarthy, wed her on February 28, 1953 in Michigan. She became a full- time homemaker in 1955 before moving to Anaheim, California in 1956 for her husband’s employment with Northrop. In 1970, the family moved to Panama City, FL. to join the Navy family at the OSF of the Naval Base. Virginia settled with her family in Panama City and the family opened Gulf Coast Hyperbaric. She lived a happy life filled with worldly travels and the love of her family. She enjoyed participating in golf tournaments, was an avid bowler in a league, and an exceptional artist. She gave back through charity, her work with the wounded warrior program, and had many family and friends at the St. John Catholic Church.

Virginia is survived by her husband, James McCarthy, her daughter Cheryl Whitehead McCarthy, her grandchildren, Carlos “Colby” Whitehead- wife Ashley, and James “Kyle” Whitehead wife- Alicia, and great grandchildren Evan, Hudson, Emma, and Hinton Whitehead.

Virginia wished to be cremated and her family to hold a private celebration of her life.

She was a ray of sunshine and shared her soft, tender, and loving heart to all she knew. Her smile and laughter will be deeply missed on Earth, but seen again in Heaven.
