Master Sergeant, Willard D. McCumbers, USAF, ret., 84 of Panama City, passed away January 10, 2020 in Omaha, NE. Willard was born December 31, 1935 in Creston, W. Virginia to Noah and Mary (Starcher) McCumbers and moved to Panama City in 1956. He is a 23 years Air Force veteran who served in the Korean War and twice during the Viet Nam War. Upon his retirement from the Air Force, Willard went to work for the United States Civil Service where he helped build embassies in Uganda and Kenya; worked with NASA during the Space Shuttle development years and also served in Saudi Arabia helping build the trans-Saudi Arabian Pipeline. Willard was an avid racketball player, enjoyed fishing and attending sporting events with his sons, and would have spent every moment with his grand babies if he could have. He was united in marriage to his wife of 56 years, Betty Jean who preceded him in death in 2012. Willard is also preceded in death by brothers, William, Gene, Darryl and Donald McCumbers and a granddaughter, Nora McCumbers. Willard is survived by his sons, Joseph of Youngstown, FL and Michael and his wife, Amelia of Omaha; his brothers, Clarence, Gary, Charles, Roy, Paul and Ricky McCumbers; a sister, Betty; his grandchildren, Jared, Heather, Holly, Natalie, Noah and Nash and his great-grandchildren, Amaya, Analeigh, Tristian and Khai. Friends will be received 6-8 pm Thursday at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Friday at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
