William Hoyle Haisten

Bill “H” Haisten, 87, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home.  He was a native of Panama City, born December 13, 1926.  Bill was Baptist by faith.  He was a veteran of the Army, serving during World War II.

“H” was a lifetime board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bay County volunteering from 1966 until his passing.
  
In 1967, Bill became Scoutmaster of the Boys Club of Bay County, Troop 308, which was the First Integrated Scout troop in Bay County.  In 1977 he was awarded the Gulf Coast Council Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America.

In 2007, Bill was a Jefferson Award recipient for his public service to youth in our community.  Throughout the years he mentored and guided not only his family but many other youth in Bay County.

After retiring from Tetley Tea, Mr. Bill spent the last 20+ years, up until and including the day of his passing, at Howell Tackle where he played/worked and told many a fishing tale.

His #1 fishing buddy, grandson Corey Madison, unknowingly caught, cleaned and cooked his favorite and last meal, fried mullet.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, James M. Haisten and Emmy “Fleming” Haisten and brother, James Marvin Haisten.  He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ernestine Wilder Haisten; children, Christie (Murray) Shipes, Mike (Cindy) Haisten, Suzy (Steven) Nadler, James (Teresa) Haisten, Sherri (Greg) Reitmeyer; daughter-in-law, Amy Jo Meekins; grandchildren, April Shipes, Jason Shipes, Stacy Lively, Heather Putman, Heather (Blake) Panabaker, Robbie (Debi) Greto, Chris (Lindsay) Haisten, Katie Floyd, James Derrek Henderson, David Nadler, Adriana Sutherland, Corey Griner, Casey Griner, Corey Haisten, Brent (Amanda) Hugghins, Amanda Reitmeyer, and Ryan Hugghins; and 12 great-grandchildren plus baby girl Catelyn due in July.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel with Dr. John Friedman officiating.  Asked to serve as pallbearers are grandsons, Chris Haisten, Derrek Henderson, Brent Hugghins, Ryan Hugghins, Corey Griner, Casey Griner, Corey Haisten and Steven Sain. The family will receive visitors and friends on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers “H” requested donations be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bay County.
