Bonnie Merle Mitchell, age 86 went to be with Jesus on March 26, 2016, and to join her mother and daddy whom she loved so much. Bonnie was born on June 14, 1930 in Holmes County, Florida. Bonnie was the daughter of Revered Harmon C. Mitchell and Vesta Jewel (Roach) Mitchell. Bonnie loved Jesus, loved to be in church and loved to listen to Gospel music. If there was a church service nearby, Bonnie could usually be found there, where she would sit up front and play her tambourine with the singers. Though Bonnie had been confined to a wheelchair all of her life, she was always pleasant, kind and loving to everyone she met. She loved to give her testimony. Bonnie was a very giving person and knitting was her favorite thing to do. She would often give away the items that she knitted, but her only request was “You bring me the thread”. Bonnie was beloved by her friends and family and she enjoyed getting together with them when she could. She would roll around in her wheelchair and greet everyone with “Hey”. Bonnie was a shining light to residents and staff at the Washington County Rehab which she has called home for the last 21 years moving here from Panama City, Florida after 21 years in a nursing home there. Bonnie is preceded in death by sisters Eula Champagne, Virginia Abernathy and Mary Nell Martin, and by one brother Hulon Mitchell. She is survived by sisters Doris (Ralph) Becker, Jeanette (Charles) Riley, and Janice (Marvin) Stukey and many beloved nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Thursday from 6-8pm at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place 1:00 pm Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Southport. Interment will follow the service at Lynn Haven Cemetery.
