Robert “Bob” Conner, 99 years old, passed away peacefully February 19th.
He was born in Kentucky August 20, 1918 and stayed there until he moved to California. There he went to college until he joined the US Army in 1939. He was stationed in Alaska during WW11, protecting the West Coast. After his honorable discharge in 1945 he moved to Detroit and began working for the Department of Transportation. He stayed with the City of Detroit until he retired in 1981. He moved to Panama City Beach in 1990 and felt he found heaven on earth.
He could not sit still! He enjoyed working with his hands until he lost his sight due to macular degeneration. When he could no longer drive he became a frequent sight walking along Front Beach Road doing his errands or walking to his church to volunteer. He loved his God, his church (Woodstock Church/PCB), his family and his huge multitude of friends. His last years were at Superior Residences where he was loved unconditionally by staff and residents equally. He was one of a kind: a genuine, loving Christian man.
He is survived by his daughters: Roberta Bernhardt and Bianca Allor Cousins (Wayne); his grandchildren Ross Bernhardt, Deborah Fitzsimmons (Mike) and Jeff Allor (Shannon); Seven great grandchildren Peyton, Brittany, Joshua, Addison, Justin, Shea and Ryan; and two great-great grandchildren Riley and Jaxson.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife Shirley Conner, son Robert Lee Conner 111, and grandchildren Rachelle Dawn Bernhardt and Stephen Conner.
The family will honor Mr. Conner’s memory with a Celebration of Life Ceremony in Michigan at a later date.
